Match report THATCHAM’S 3RD XI POOR START TO THE SEASON CONTINUED WITH A 60 RUN DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF LOCAL RIVALS THEALE&TILEHURST, ALTHOUGH IT MUST BE SAID IF THATCHAM HAD RECEIVED A FAIR RUB OF THE GREEN THEN THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH CLOSER.

Batting first Theale struggled at first against MATT TAYLOR and quickly lost two early wickets, which very nearly became three. However Choules (28) rode his luck and along with the combative CROFTS (57) put the visitors in a healthy position. A mini collapse inspired by Malcolm Bloor (4-44) left Tilhurst on 111-5 , but Thatcham were unable to seize the initiative as many near misses along with R.Sankarans (28) took Tilehurst to 204-9 from 52 overs. Taylor returned to finish with figures of (4-43).

In response DARREN SOPP (31) and NEIL STEVENSON (15) gave Thatcham a sound start before STEVESON became over ambitious. This led to a middle order collapse and coupled with Sean Huckins injuring his arm while batting THATCHAM WERE LEFT FLOUNDERING ON 78-7. Kevin Liversidge and paul Holland(27) took thatcham past the 100 mark and Taylor capped a fine day for him with an unbeaten 22, but the final wicket fell with just two balls to go on 144. DOC HALLIDAY (6-52) being the chief destroyer, whilst SANKARAN took (1-15) from 13 overs.
