Match report Henley won the ever important toss for Saturday’s reduced overs clash with visiting Thatcham.

Thatcham’s openers Chris Wright (11) and Gavin McDonald (5) struggled against Cowie’s erratic line. The unfortunate Wright, after running out partner McDonald, edged Cowie’s good ball behind to the keeper. After Igor Cottingham’s (10) stay at the wicket Rakesh Patel (30) and Stuart Newlad (42) put together Thatcham’s only meaningful partnership with Newlad being particularly harsh on anything. Paul Jenkins (0) came and went leaving Tom Donnelly (25) and veteran Stephen Bird (14 no) to help Thatcham post 160 in their 39 overs. Never enough.

After a particularly uninspiring tea Thatcham’s new ball bowlers Patel (4-0-33-0) and Jenkins (3.1-0-16-0) were dispatched to most parts of Henley’s rather pleasant ground. That triggered the introduction of spinners John Williams (14-7-36-4) and Perry Moore (12-2-56-2) which halted Henley’s charge and when Patel ran Montague out by a matter of yards Thatcham were in a favourable position with Henley needing 63 to win from the 9 overs remaining. However a succession of 4 balls and byes allowed Henley to eventually ease past TTCC’s lowly 160 with 2 overs left. Darn.
