Match report Thatcham Sunday 1st XI recorded their first win of the season away at Swindon this week in emphatic style.

On a very flat low bouncing wicket and gusty cross winds the Thatcham opening bowlers found it hard to bowl straight and Swindon Openers A. Spencer (35) and L. Tucker (23) eased along at more than ten an over scoring 80 without loss after 7 overs. The openers were removed from the attack and the early introduction of spin soon spelt trouble for Swindon. Andrew McKenzie on debut took 1 for 21 from 9 overs and Veteran Chris Bird took 2 for 18 from 7 overs, it was only the patience of J. Baden (78*) that allowed Swindon to post a respectful 225 after such a solid start.

Thatcham showed their intentions from the start by scoring at well over the required rate Stephen Bartholomew (68) played some caressing cover drives frequently, never letting the bowlers dominate and Chris Barnes (66*) hastily ran singles to rotate the strike of the left and right hand combination. Some big hitting from debutant Mckenzie (34) sealed the win and put Swindon out of contention. M. Keep (18*) hit the winning runs with 5 overs to spare allowing Thatcham to pick up 20 points from their 8 wicket win.

The next game is Purley at Home on the 20th of May and the young Thatcham side will look to increase their points tally then.
