Match report Peter Spriggs has long been regarded as one of the club's best emerging batsmen, but bowling-wise he was until recently written off as a chucker. On Weds night that changed as Spriggsy bowled his first over for Thatcham - a sensational final over in the twenty20 fixture v Wantage that must be, must surely be, the best over ever bowled in the Downs League. A maiden is impressive in Twenty20, a wicket-maiden is something special. Peter Spriggs with his flat off breaks bowled, can you believe it, a quadruple wicket-maiden featuring 3 clean bowled and 1 stumping. He should retire from bowling forever and claim his bowling average of 0.

Earlier, the Academy Trouts had posted 152 with contributions from Jack Young (28) and Peter Spriggs (21) but were saved thanks to an excellent counter attack by Eddie Wylie (30) and Tom Owen (23) after Town were wobbling at 76/5 to help the Academy post 152/8.

Defending against a team of 11 attack-minded adults, the Academy youngsters bowled superbly well with Will Rowsell's 3-0-18-3 the pick of the bowling supported by Gregor Wells' incredibly tight 4-0-15-1, until Spriggs stole the show late on, Town winning by 32 runs.
