Match report For our first match of the season, Sulhampstead won the toss and put Thatcham into bat. Cox and Blair opened up for Thatcham. Blair received a ball that stayed low and took his wicket and then Cox was joined at the crease by Lewis who both played some lovely strokes with Cox smashing a couple of boundary’s and Lewis hitting his first ball for a boundary. There was some impressive running between the wickets with tip and go that quickly got the score board warmed up. After a mix up for a quick single Lewis was stranded in one man’s land for 13 and then in came Mackay. Mackay, carried on with the quick singles before being bowled for 18. Cox who played a beautiful innings was deemed to be run out on 24. Now for the big hitters, Slevins first ball looked like it was on its way to Reading but managed to get a top edge and was duly caught Scott tried to play the same shot playing across the line and was bowled, Price missed a straight ball and was bowled. Checkfield and Yeats steadied the ship both playing defensive innings but kept the score ticking over with Sulhamstead bowling wides and no balls. Thatcham end on 111 for 8.
Lewis opened the bowling with a bye and then a wide then middle stump flying through the air. Blair kept it very tight with some accurate bowling and taking a wicket in his last over. Mackay couldn’t find his line but bowled with some real pace, Scott kept it tight at the other end. Price bowled a tidy spell with Checkfield, Davidson-Soler, Marshall and Yeats all bowling well. Sulhampstead only scored 29 off the bat but Thatcham gave away 49 extras mostly through wides but we will work on this next week. A special mention for Adam Marshall fielding anything on the leg side he was there and Matt Cox good display with the bat and a fine performance with the gloves. Well done.
