Match report Thatcham 3rd xi’s league campaign started with a disappointing drawn at home to a weakened Beaconsfield 3rd xi.

Electing to bat in the artic conditions at Henwick Thatcham made a sloe start until a partnership between Sean Huckins (31) and Tom Sanders (27) put Thatcham in the driving seat on a wicket where 175 was always going to be a useful total. Skipper Malcolm Bloor made (39) and Matt Burnett a useful (15), but the tail failed to wag as Thatcham were bowled out for 168 from only 45 overs. C.Blunden (4-32) and D.Smith (2-34) being the pick of the bowlers for Beaconsfield.

Having 55 overs in which to get the runs it was essential for THatcham to make early breakthroughs which they did through Bloor (2-21) and Gavin Ansell (3-26). It then became a war of attrition between veteran Steve Lynch and the Thatcham bowlers as he ground out for 48 overs in reaching an unbeaten (59) as Thatcham nearly clinched victory by having Beaconsfield 9 wickets down for 125 at the end. Neil Stevenson (2-20) also picked up 2 wickets.
