Match report
DESPITE AN IMPROVED BATTING DISPLAY THATCHAM 3RD XI SLUMPED TO YET ANOTHER DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF HURST 2ND XI BY 5 WICKETS.
Put into bat Bob Gadsden (38) gave thatcham a good start, Neil Stevenson (29) again contributed well and along with Malcolm Bloor Thatcham were looking to post a decent total. Graham Squire (39) attacked from the start and he and bloor added 84 in 10 overs as Thatcham closed on 225-6 from 52 overs with bloor unbeaten on (72). Former first class umpire IAN Harvey (3-48) being the home sides most successful bowler.
In reply Hurst lost two early wickets to Matt Taylor (2-44) and Kevin Liversidge (1-59), but the turning point came when Dave Warke was dropped twice early in his innings as he and captain Ian Murphy (53) took the game away from thatcham as warke in particular hit the ball to all parts before falling to a catch in the deep for (93). Paul Shay (36not out) timde the ball well in his aggressive stay at the crease and along with Nigel HAWKES (14not out) comfortably took Hurst to victory with 6 overs to spare.
