Maidenhead & Bray 3 v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday on Sat 07 May 2011 at 1pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 158 runs

Match report Thatcham’s 2nd string began their TVL5 campaign in fine style with a 158 thumping of Maidenhead & Bray’s 3rd team on Saturday.

After the heavy overnight rain and an uncovered track, the last thing on Thatcham’s mind would have been batting first but, having lost the toss and been inserted, openers Matt Watts and Josh Winfield set about their challenging task with appropriate caution.
Runs were hard to come by against the nagging length of Alam and Hussain but Winfield began to cut loose before departing to the former for 26, Thatcham 39 for 1. Veteran left-hander Malcolm Bloor (14) came and went before Jack Young upped the tempo with a swift 36, including five boundaries.
Watts continued with dogged determination at the other end and gained useful support from Adam Phillips (19) but his epic innings eventually came to an end in the 43rd over when a tired shot saw him caught off Hussain for 44.
Robb Fraser picked up the pace of the innings well and smashed 22 in quick time and Nick Monger (14 not out) and Nick Bishop continued the run charge as the visitors looked to securing maximum batting points only to fall two runs adrift – Thatcham’s innings closing on 198 for 7.

After tea, Thatcham’s opening bowlers made early inroads, with Matt Taylor in particular hitting his straps from the word go, bowling with exceptional control, to produce a devastating seven over spell to finish with 4 for 12, including a good show of aggression to remove Bukhari for 13, sending the batsman’s off stump cart-wheeling out of the ground.
At the other end, Jamie Bishop got into his stride providing excellent support , producing figures of 3 for 18 from 11 and, with Taylor replaced by Nick Monger’s off-spin, the pair polished off the Maidenhead & Bray tail in quick fashion for a miserly 40 all out, Monger snapping up 3 for 6 from his 22 ball spell.

Thatcham will undoubtedly face sterner opposition during the season but can be delighted with a 25 point haul from an excellent all round team display and look forward to playing host to Kew 3s at Brownsfield this weekend.
