Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 150 runs

Match report Thatcham 2s completed a successful season with a comprenesive 150 run victory over their counterparts from Datchet on Saturday, however their 25 point haul was not enough to leapfrog second placed Marlow Park and the Brownsfield side had to settle for a creditable 3rd place in TVL Division 5B.

Having won a rare toss, Thatcham batted first and after three early wickets for 54, Paul Jenkins and Arthur Edwards carved out a century partnership in just 58 minutes to turn the game in the visitors favour.

Jenkins mixed caution with free flowing shots on both sides of the wicket, whilst newcomer Edwards was in belligerent mood, smashing 7 boundaries before holing out to McDermott for a fine half century.

Thatcham looked to maintain the pace and useful middle order knocks from Robb Fraser, Nick Bishop and Nick Voller provided good support to Jenkins who marched on towards a well deserved century, which he duly completed in the 44th over.

Jenkins continued to push for more quick runs but fell soon after for a marvellous 104 (7 boundaries and 2 sixes) in a 137 minute stay at the crease. The visitors innings eventually closed when debutant Peter Spriggs was dismissed with the score on 248, Datchet bowlers Williams (4 for 58) and Kenny (4 for 59) gaining reward for their perseverance.

Thatcham skipper Nick Bishop retained the old ball and opened up in tandem with John Williams and both bowlers soon had the home batsmen under pressure. Williams, in particular, found exceptional turn and bounce and sent back Datchet’s top three with only 26 on the board, including a sharp stumping by Spriggs.

Bishop replaced himself with Voller (3 for 30) and after some useful resistance from Mohammad (34) and Shepherd (12), wickets began falling at regular intervals. Williams continued to have the Datchet batsmen in all kinds of trouble and eventually picked up a much derserved 5 for 32 unchanged from 14 overs.

Matt Denness chipped in with a stunning direct hit run out and when Voller was replaced by Tristan Allen, the young left armer finished off proceedings by clean bowling last man Abramson, Datchet 98 all out int he 28th over.
