Match report THATCHAM’ S 3RD XI EARNED A VERY CREDITABLE DRAW AT TOP OF THE TABLE YATELEY ON SATURDAY.

Electing to bat Yateley soon lost an early wicket to Owen Jenkins (1-40), but the happy go lucky John Muir (14) and D.Vincent set to rebuild the innings before one cavalier shot too many saw the end of Muir. Vincent batted on with a polished array of shots to make an accomplished 70 whilst others fell round him to Ravi Mirchandani (3-33) and Kevin Liversidge (2-66). At 111-6 Thatcham were well in control, but in walked the diminutive Ben Moran-Wardle who along with H.Wildley (32) attacked the Thatcham bowlers as the two youngsters took the score towards the 200 mark. Despite a close run-out call, the excellent Moran-Wardle remained unbeaten on (62) as Yateley posted a formidable 244-9 from 51 overs.

In reply Thatcham’s Mike Beaumont showed all his class and experience as he built his innings steadily and had useful partnerships with the Mirchandani twins Ravi (23) and Rahul (16), however with the required run rate climbing skipper Eddie Wylie strode to the wicket and with Beaumont the pair added 92 in 14 overs before Beaumont fell for a well crafted (95) and took Thatcham to a sniff of victory. Wylie was then run out for a fine attacking (59) and with 13 needed from the last over it was just too much to ask as Thatcham finished 7 runs short on 237-6.
