Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 4XI- Saturday v Eversley 4 on Sat 28 May 2011 at 1pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Thatcham Town 4th XI played hosts to a below strength Eversley 4th XI on Saturday the 28th of May. Eversley won the toss and elected to bat first, no doubt looking to secure what points they could, given the depleted line up.

Thatcham opened with Gavin Ansell (15.2-3-3-41) and Neil Stevenson (14-5-4-34), both of whom made the most of any swing available, bowling challenging lines to all batsmen. It was Stevenson who struck first, removing both openers for ducks. That was the way of things, as runs proved hard to come by and wickets fell at regular intervals. Thatcham newcomer, Rakhman Toothakael (5-1-2-19) was the other wicket taker, coming on first change, in place of Ansell. In his first bowling spell for the club, he bowled with some impressive accuracy and movement to take two middle order wickets, to go with his 3 catches. Sam Rodway and Tommy Mather were the other bowlers, neither of whom took a wicket, but with their own versions of wrist spin, both challenged the batsmen on more than one occasion. Eversley were all out for 129 in 40.2 overs and though Thatcham would have bitten your arm of at the start of the match, to dismiss the opposition for that score, they were left feeling that they had conceded 30 or so runs more than was necessary.

In reply, Thatcham opened with Mick Stone (16) and Neil Stevenson (84*), as they looked to bat cautiously to start, given they had 59 overs with which to score on 130 runs. Both batsmen soon were in their stride though, dealing mainly in boundaries until Stone was dismissed for 16, with the total on 52. The Thatcham keeper, Peter Spriggs (25*), joined his older partner and himself looked to hold up his end and feed the strike to Stevenson. Spriggs achieved this in assured style until he too, looked to punish anything loose, hitting five boundaries in his 25. Thatcham polished off the remaining runs, finishing on 132-1 after 32.1 overs.

A fantastic performance from Thatcham, in all 3 disciplines, gaining a second 20 point victory in a row to climb to fifth in the table, overtaking Eversley (who scored only 4 points in this match) and local rivals Falkland 4's, as they only picked up a single point, away to Basingstoke and Northants 5's.

Next week sees Thatcham 4's travel to top of the table Bagshot 3's and will look to continue their good fortune and make it 3 wins in a row.
