Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Chiswick & Latymer II on Sat 05 Aug 2006 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report Thatcham played host to mid table Chiswick & Latymer at Brownsfield on Saturday. Home skipper, Perry Moore, won the toss and had no hesitation inserting the opposition. Evergreen Nick Voller and Paul Jenkins opened up for Thatcham and a series of half trackers and half volleys brought up Chiswick’s 50 in the 9th over. Voller, who previously bowled Badman for 16, removed visiting skipper Matti Watton for a well worked 28. Simon Rider replaced a tiring Jenkins in the eighth over only to accelerate the run rate. Despite Rider’s only wicket, Thakker LBW for 20, Chiswick looked set to post a score in excess of 350. The introduction of veteran left arm spinner Chris Bird immediately halted Chiswick’s run feast. Bird, in tandem with off spinner Perry Moore (13-4-33-4), took wickets at regular intervals. A regulation stumping by Stephen Bird put paid to the dangerous Chacko and when Qazalbash holed out in the deep Thatcham were in complete control. The reintroduction of Jenkins, however, allowed Chiswick to pass the 200 mark with ease. Bird meanwhile continued to bowl with control to record impressive figures 16 – 5 – 41 – 3. Chiswick’s innings closed on 212 when Robb Fraser, Thatcham’s specialist fielder, took his forth catch of the day to remove Redman for 17.

Stephen Bird, still smarting from missing a sharp chance off Jenkins earlier in the day, dropped down the order to allow Mike Beaumont and Iain Cottingham commence Thatcham’s run chase. Circumspect Cottingham played with his usual panache to reach 50 off 113 balls, regularly stroking the ball to fielders. Beaumont (8) who earlier failed to pick Ali’s leg break made way for S Bird when Thatcham had 9 runs on the board. He and Cottingam took the score to 96 before Bird (45) had his middle stump uprooted by the pacey Redman. Jenkins was next to join Cottingham and both began to accelerate the score. Cottingham (83) was nearing his century when Laidlow dropped one short only for the Thatcham opener to despatch it to the deep backward square leg boundary where Watton took a regulation catch. Sean Huckins (28no) and Jenkins (42no) then set about knocking off the remaining 43 runs that secured Thatcham’s victory.

Thatcham are still second and travel to bottom of the league Teddington this week.
