Match report Thatcham’s Sunday second eleven followed up their win at Hungerford last Sunday with a disappointing performance away at Swindon II to lose by wickets.

Batting first they lost Jamie Young early but Dave Taylor and Nic Monger batted confidently, scoring at five an over before Monger holed out at mid off for 18. Taylor continued to pick up runs but a middle order collapse left him somewhat stranded and he was finally bowled for 44. Dominic Melville and Daniel Stephenson, both with 9, briefly threatened a partnership and Liam Sutton hit some lusty blows to score 12 but an all out total of 133 didn’t look enough.

Opening the bowling with the spin of Monger surprised the home side and the youngster picked up two early wickets in a fine 9 over spell of 2-25 and when Andy Stephenson struck Swindon were 58-3. The run rate was not going to be a problem so Thatcham had to bowl their opponents out.

Jo Wylie’s (2-26) introduction saw two wickets in his first over and at 74-5 Thatcham were back in the game. However, Novais and Jenkins batted calmly to take Swindon to victory by five wickets with 8 overs to spare.
