Boyne Hill 2 v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday on Sat 08 Sep 2012 at 12:30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 8 Wickets
Match report
Thatcham 2nd XI reinforced their position as Division 5B champions as they ran out comfortable winners against Boyne Hill 2nd XI on Saturday.
Continuing with the ‘tails never fails’ theory Thatcham skipper Steve Bird lost another toss and Boyne Hill, with an outside chance of promotion in their minds, elected to bat. The decision to bat was immediately justified as the home side raced to 29 from the first 3 overs. Thatchams opening pair of Jack Andrews and Matt Taylor soon adjusted their line and length, bowling more akin to their talents as they reduced the run rate to a more manageable 4 runs per over.
Taylor struck first removing Tiwana, Leg Before Wicket, only for Ahram to stroll to the wicket and dispatch his first ball back over Taylor’s head of 6, Taylor responded, nodding his head in appreciation while wearing a quizzical look of disbelief of what had just happened. Taylor did however put the record straight two overs later as Ahram tried to repeat the feat only to hole out to Jack Young at mid-on.
Taylor furthered the visitor’s wicket tally the very next ball as he managed to guide a ball smashed back at him by Griffin onto the stumps to run out Minhas. Griffin (24) was next to be removed by Taylor (3-39) with the score on 61 as the home side continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Veteran Tim Mahoney and youngster Tommy Mather were paired together for the next 18 overs and continued to gain success with only skipper Roberts managing to produce the type of innings required by the home side as he combined hard hitting with aggressive running in his tally of 35.
Thatcham thought a short day was in the offering as they removed the home sides 9th wicket in the 35th over with the score stagnating on 119. However Boyne Hill’s final pair were not going to play ball as McDonnel (35 not out) and Mahmood (5) decided to bat the overs available and were suitably rewarded for they patients with a stand of 43, giving the home side something to bowl at. Mahmood finally feel to the spin of Moore (1-3) as the home side were bowled out for 162 in the 52nd over with Tim Mahoney finally finishing his marathon 19 over spell with figures of 4 for 37.
Thatchams response could not have been more perfect with the wicket of Watts the only blemish of the Thatcham scorecard as he was spectacularly caught by Griffin at slip off the bowling of Roberts for 0. Jamie Young continued to impress at the top of the order as he combined with Tom Mahoney to take the Thatcham total to 63 from 12 overs. Young’s wicket with the score on 63 was the last to fall as he missed a straight one and was bowled by Minhas for an excellent 35.
Jack Young (55 not out) joined Tom Mahoney (58 not out) at the crease for what was to be the final partnership of the innings as the pair systematically chased down the home sides score. Mahoney completed the innings striking another powerful 4, taking Thatcham to an 8 wicket victory and completing a very successful season.
