Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday v Reading 2 on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 1.00pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets

Match report Another dominant Thatcham performance saw the Brownsfield outfit move to second in the league as they despatched lowly Reading II’s in an emphatic 8 wicket win.

With Rishto heading back to the crèche, The Major made a welcome return and other than a late call up for scorer Amy Bart, it was the only change from the side that was full of confidence following their unbeaten start to the season.

On a belting track and near perfect outfield, it was no surprise that Reading chose to bat but clearly opener Subhani had somewhere else to be as he wasted no time in driving Gibbo straight to Flynny for an early breakthrough. Flynn catch ball. Flynn happy.

In stark contrast, fellow opener Beercraft was in obdurate mood, taking 22 balls to get off the mark as he and the slightly more aggressive Singh dug in against another controlled opening spell from Gibbo (1-22) and Callum ‘it’s complicated’ Johnson (1-27).

The introduction of Webbs’ Bragg-esque spin finally saw the back of Singh (25) and when Flynny produced successive pearlers to see off Beercraft (20) and Nasim, Reading were struggling at 59-4.

Top marks to Flynny on picking up his 8th victim of the season. We all look forward to the ‘all rounder’ scoring his 8th run of the season, probably sometime in August.

With Thatcham now firmly in control, Willo (4-34) came into the attack and despite struggling for consistency still asked plenty of questions as Reading tried in vain to up the ante. At 99 for 8 the innings looked all but over but Walder (31) and Mughal (16) showed great determination in a 40 run final wicket partnership to frustrate Thatcham’s plan for an early tea and see Reading reach 153.

It was unlikely that the total would cause too many problems given the ideal batting conditions, but the early loss of Den showed that there was still some work to be done as The Major and The Cat set about chipping away at the target. With Rossco suffering from a recurring shrapnel wound and Felix clearly believing that running is for the working classes, the boundaries began to flow until Felix (43) fell to the left handed version of Reading opener Nasim.

The wicket saw Jonno (36 not out) arrive at the crease and finish all chances of any further quick singles, but he and The Major (69 not out) were in complete control and eased their way towards the total. Reading continued to battle hard in the field and other than Ross trying to pick a fight with a child, the target was reached without further incident.
