Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday v Aldershot on Sat 03 Aug 2013 at 1.00pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won By 7 wickets

Match report A perfectly timed 72 not out from Chris Wright led Thatcham to victory as they maintained their push for promotion with a 7 wicket win at home to Aldershot.
Chasing 227, Wright's unbroken 140 run partnership with Duncan Johnson saw Thatcham home with an over to spare in an stand that proved an object lesson in patience, timing and disciplined hitting.
Thatcham's run chase had started cautiously as both Ross Schreiber (47) and new signing Mark Abrams carefully negotiated the early overs from an Aldershot attack that took the pace off the ball immediately. When Abrams fell to an unfortunate run out, Felix Hartley Russell (27) briefly upped the tempo but when Wright joined Johnson at 88-3, the run rate had crept to more than 6 an over as Aldershot looked to close out the game.
Thatcham maintained their steady pace against some disciplined bowling but as the required run rate steadily rose it looked like they may have left it too late with 100 runs still required and just 12 overs remaining. But Wright and Johnson refused to panic and when Wright survived being bowled off a Yakud no-ball he didn't look back. As Thatcham held their nerve, Aldershot struggled for answers and the two batsmen began to take control with a series of big overs rapidly eating into the target. With Wright now in aggressive mode, Johnson (51 not out) expertly rotated the strike and the pair eased Thatcham home to secure 20 points and leave a shell-shocked Aldershot asking just where it had all gone wrong.

Earlier in the day, Aldershot had been built their total around Naqvi's hard hitting 92 as he and captain Baig (42 not out) posted an impressive 7th wicket partnership to rebuild an innings that had stuttered to 95 for 6. Callum Johnson (2-21) and Josh O'Flynn (3-58) were the pick of the attack as Thatcham did well to contain their opponents in favourable batting conditions. The departure of Naqvi just short of a deserved century brought about a sporting declaration at 227 and whilst Baig may have later regretted the decision, he was right to give his side as many overs as possible on a day when the bat was unquestionably in the ascendancy.
The win sees Thatcham hold onto third spot in the table and with a trip to bottom side Reading on Saturday, they can be confident of maintaining their promotion charge in the weeks to come.
