Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1st X1 - Sunday v Reading Sports on Sun 08 Jun 2008 at 2pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 86 runs
Match report
An outstanding Martin Keep century was the highlight as Thatcham’s Border League campaign got off to a winning start with an emphatic victory over Reading Sports on Sunday.
Having been inserted in near perfect batting conditions, Thatcham started confidently with Chris Bird (45) and Felix Hartley-Russell (15) enjoying a 42 run opening partnership. Hartley-Russell’s departure brought Martin Keep to the crease and he soon began to dominate with an expert display in controlled aggression. Particularly strong through the leg-side, Keep struck 18 fours before finally succumbing to the heat for a memorable 101. Valuable support from Simon Rider (21) and John Williams (25) helped Thatcham total 254-6 from their 42 overs.
Reading Sports replied in aggressive fashion but too many loose strokes saw Thatcham quickly amongst the wickets as Ali Naqvi (3-22) tore through the top order and extinguished any chance of a Reading victory. Further wickets for Gavin Ansell (2-24) and Eddie Wylie (2-17) added to Reading’s woes as the visitors were all out for just 168, giving Thatcham maximum points and the perfect start to the Border League season.
