Match report Thatcham suffered their fourth defeat in a row by 100 runs away to Finchampstead
Finchampstead won the toss and chose to bat on a very flat wicket. Thatcham’s opening bowling pair of Ryan Gilmour and Mike Green bowled with good pace and control which made it quite difficult Finchampstead openers Jenkins and Eldridge to score, it was the 10th over until Eldridge actually got off the mark. Gilmour struck first with the score on 33 he had Jenkins caught by Nick Bishop for 25. O’Donahue (7) was next to go stumped Jamie Young bowled Bishop. Eldridge and Loveday built a partnership of 146 before Eldridge went for 91, stumped Young bowled Tim Mahoney. The fourth and final wicket to fall was Osler (4) bowled Green. Finchampstead’s innings closed on 267 off 50 overs with Loveday and Taylor not out with 99 and 17 respectively
Thatcham knew it was crucial to score quickly from the start as rain would be coming in and the game would be decided by the Duckworth Lewis method. Ben Copeman and Rhys Williams opened the batting. With the score on 22 Copeman (16) was caught by Jenkins off the bowling of West. Jack Young joined Williams and they set about attacking the Finchampstead bowling, Williams being the aggressor hitting the ball to all parts with Young playing a supporting role. The partnership reached 90, putting Thatcham well in front of the D/L rate, when Williams just before the drinks break was caught behind off the bowling of Hussain. Thatcham then lost Wood (2), Lewis (0), Jack Young (21) and Tom Mahoney (4). With Jamie Young and Ryan Gilmour at the crease the rain came just too late to help Thatcham. The players came off, took tea and waited about for a decision. The umpires decided sometime around 8 PM that the game should restart, with Thatcham requiring 90 off 27 balls. Young and Gilmour knew they had no chance of scoring enough runs to win but they could earn Thatcham more batting points, they added 37 runs before the umpires called a halt to the game due to bad light. Young (23) and Gilmour (17) finished both not out and Thatcham finished on 167 for 6 off 32 overs
Thatcham have a week off this week and chance to recharge their batteries to try and finish the season on a high with games away to High Wycombe and home to Royal Ascot ,
