Boyne Hill 2 v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 15 Jul 2023 at 1:00pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won

Match report Thatcham to the table for the first time this season as they made it three wins on the bounce after an 8 wicket win away to Boyne Hill.

With rain around and the likelihood of a shortened game, Young was delighted to win the toss and bowl first. Moore (1-22) struck early to remove Shepherd before the expected rain arrived after just 5 overs. After just over an hours delay, the game was restarted with the game being reduced to a 90 over game meaning Boyne Hill had a maximum of 47 overs to bat. A 50 partnership frustrated Thatcham, although the run rate never got out of control. Ex Eton school boy Des Hartley Russell bowled with good heat without reward. As ever, the introduction of Christopher Bird changed the game in Thatcham’s favour. He found good support from Brown (2-40) as the pair yet again ripped through the middle order. Bird bowling 15 overs straight, picking up 4 wickets for just 31 runs. Some late order hitting saw the visitors sneak to 181 from their allotted overs. Mellor (41*) was particularly positive and made Thatcham pay for his early reprieve.

Thatcham’s response got off to an emphatic start. Williams punishing anything over pitched with his trademark drives down the ground. He flew to 43 as he and Klichowicz put on 61 before Williams went for one shot too many and was caught. This brough the inform Brown to the crease. The Thatcham man is in a rich vein of form currently, yielding 364 runs in his last 5 innings, making the number 3 spot his own. He showed no sign of his form letting up as he hit a couple of early boundaries to settle him down. Klichowicz was also starting to get into his work. After falling in the 40s four times already this season, he was pleased to final get past the 50 mark. A fine array of back foot punches and leg glances saw him hit 13 boundaries in his knock. Soon after, Brown followed Klichowicz to 50, with a glorious straight drive for 6 and the pair went past their 100 partnership. It was therefore a surprise when with 17 to win, Brown was caught for 51. This brought in the returning Felix Hartley Russell to the crease who struck 12 in just 5 balls to finish the game. Thatcham winning inside the 33rd over just 2 wickets down.

Another fine all round display from Thatcham who will look to take a big step towards promotion this Saturday at Reading, who currently sit 3rd in the league, 17 points off the Trouts. A win for Thatcham would open up a crucial gap going into the last third of the season.
