Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Chenies & Latimer on Sat 16 May 2009 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Having just about recovered from last weeks nearly-but-not-quite exciting finish, Thatcham entertained Chenies and Latimer in the first home game of the season. With the Mahoney twins making their annual pilgrimage to north london, there was an opening in the team for inspirational skipper Robbie F. With all pre-match talk of Stuart Newman's new wood out of the way, it was time to get going.

Thatcham got themselves off to a flyer and after 12 overs they found themselves dominating the early exchanges with the score at 12-2 - Young and Mcdonald gone for 0, the latter pretty much catching a long hop and placing it in the fielders pocket; generous.
Stewart Newbat joined the inform Steve Bird at the crease and the two went about attempting to rebuild the innings, putting on 55 for the 3rd wicket, before Newbat got bowled by a full, straight one. With wickets continuing to fall at the other end, Steve Bird talked his way to 41 before being bowled, leaving Thatcham to tamely limp to 124 all out. Competetive.

Buoyed on by a pleasantly surprising tea from Stephen Bird, Thatcham came out believing they could do it; If we'd only managed to get 124 on this track then surely it wasn't possible to better that, was it?. With the Bristol Flyer, Pete Edgecombe, in the attack Thatcham made early inroads - Norwood nicked off to 6th slip, much to the batsman's confusion, and Bowen bowled all ends up. Edgey was back. Unfortunately, the Chenies plan of losing two early wickets in order to get the Australian Issacs to the crease paid off - the people of Woolhampton fleeing to safety as he took a shine to the short leg side boundary.
Issacs brought up his 50 in quick time before eventually falling to JP Moore for a belligerent 58. With the score at 81-3, the visitors were well on their way to victory.
However, in true Thatcham Two's fashion, there was still time for some controversy, as word spread round the ground that Chapman may or may not have absolutey creamed
that one to Youngie. Ah well, jolly good of the young lad to give the umpires some work to do, and when he was given not out, the remainder of his 43 was a joy to watch. Edgecombe picked up a further two wickets, marking a fine return from the MLB, finishing with figures of 4-17, but the 124 that Thatcham amassed just wasn't enough.

Much like last week, the batting let the side down, and in hindsight, Thatcham may have been better off taking the groundstaff up on their offer of calling it off; a mere 4 points picked up. Eight months without a victory for the Terrible Two's now; the strain beginning to show as Fraser's Flat Top begins to turn.
