Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Teddington Town on Sat 23 May 2009 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Thatcham II’s stopped the rot by having the better of a draw with the other TTCC at Brownsfield on Saturday.
Gavin McDonald and Stephen Bird added 27 before the latter fell over in front of middle to be lbw to May for 9. Stuart Newman then continued his good form from the week before dealing harshly with anything. The partnership with McDonald ended when the Australian tea boy edged behind for 35.
Tom Mahoney and Sean Huckins came and went but Young Jamie showed a welcome return to form, helping Newman add 39, Newman falling for a fine belligerent 60 with 10 fours and a six.
When Young (21) fell soon after and John Williams went for glory Thatcham were 148-7 with fifteen overs to go. Nathan Redmond joined his ailing skipper Robb Fraser and took the fight back to the Teddington bowlers, taking advantage of some loose overs to get the scoreboard moving. As ever Fraser nudged, nurdled and whacked his way along as the pair added 78 in ten overs, Redmond’s refusal to change his broken bat costing him his wicket as he skied one all the way to short cover to be on his way for an excellent 38.
Fraser passed fifty with some more elegant strokeplay and Perry Moore (15 no) joined in the fun as the pair ran the fielders, and themselves, ragged in the last five overs, putting on another 40 as the home side finished on 267-8 from their 52 overs, Fraser 66 not out.

Following the Australian themed- very good- tea, old stager Tim Mahoney almost got the Thatcham fielding effort off to a flyer but Huckins, having held on brilliantly at slip, saw the ball dislodged as his graceful dive hit terra firma. He made up for it by taking a fine catch soon afterwards to dismiss the dangerous Watchorn off Nathan Redmond.
Mohobir and Mitchell moved the score along nicely to 70 before Moore tempted Mitchell to miscue for 31 and Williams bowled Mohobir for 29. When each bowler took another wicket Tedington were 111-5 with 18 overs to go and a Thatcham victory looked likely.
Patel was still and a danger and after doing a great impression of a number 11 for a couple of overs Beeson suddenly launched his assault, with boundries all round the leg side. A change of ends for Williams saw him get some extra bounce and Jamie Young took a superb catch at the wicket to end Patel’s (46) resistance and the partnership at 79 from 12 overs. The fine catching continued soon after as Moore returned to dismiss Beeson (43) thanks to an excellent running effort from Newman.
Thatcham were left with four overs to try to take the last three wickets but it wasn’t to be and a good match, played in the right spirit, ended in an honourable draw. Williams and Moore both bowled very well, finishing with 3-43 and 3-49 respectively. Ninth place after three games for Thatcham II’s but more performances like this could well see them rise to eighth any time soon.
