Match report Thatcham fell to defeat in their final pre-season game to Kidmore End at Brownsfield on Saturday.

Having won the toss for a second consecutive week, Young put the hosts into bat. Thatcham opened up with the reliable Moore (1-39) & Green (0-30) who started well and created a couple of early half chances and on another day, could have picked up early wickets. As it was the Kidmore End openers saw off the opening burst and it was the introduction of Thorne (1-30) that got the breakthrough for Thatcham. Bird then got into his work and again showed his class, picking up another 4 wickets for 24 runs . The rest of the Thatcham bowlers toiled hard against a strong Kidmore End side who navigated their way to 201-9 off the 40 overs, thanks to a fine 60 from Anwar who was supported well by Ram (40).

Thatcham knew that a good start was a necessity on a pitch which was offering plenty to the bowlers. Young and Klichowicz looked to put pressure on the seamers early and get ahead of the rate. Young went early for 14 and it was left to Klichowicz and Brown to take the attack to Kidmore End who made it hard for Thatcham to score. Frost (3-17) was particularly effective as he ran through Thatcham’s middle order. Thatcham were never able to recover from this and despite some resistance from Brown, the hosts batting line up failed to fire and were bowled out for just 80.

There were still plenty of positives to take from the game and the Trouts go into the season opener on Saturday away at Wokingham with a good winter and pre-season behind them.
