Match report Cove won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot sunny day. Cove’s opening batsman got of to a good start and lost their first wicket to Chris Bird with the score on 56.Ali Naqvi then took the crucial wicket of Neil Randall with the score at 95.
It then became the Chris Bird show as he spun his magic. Cove could not force the issue as Bird dominated the game. He ended with 7 for 57 from 20 overs, just reward for a fine, controlled spell with Ali Naqvi for once playing second fiddle with 3 for 82 from 24.4 as Cove were all out for 169. Cove’s top batsman was S Reed 56.

Thatcham started their chase for victory but lost their first wicket to the 5th ball of the first over. This brought Daniel Stone to the crease and he and Danny Williams took the score to 39 when Stone was LBW for 28, bringing Naqvi to the crease. He was positive from the off and once again Thatcham’s hopes rested on his shoulders.
Williams was bowled for 19 and a flurry of wickets saw Thatcham slip to 95 for 6, with the batsmen willingly assisting the bowlers.
Naqvi found a willing partner in Jason Williams and between them they looked likely to take Thatcham to victory with only 30 needed from 13 overs as both batsman started to find the boundaries. However, with the score on 138 Williams became the eighth LBW victim of the match, testament to how straight both sides had bowled. Two more wickets fell almost immediately, leaving Naqvi little option but to play his shots to try push for the win. Sadly he was caught at long on for 56 and Thatcham were all out for 142, 28 runs short with 8 overs to be bowled.
