Match report Thatcham Town 4th XI travelled to Hillingdon on Saturday for the Thames Valley League fixture against Hillingdon Manor and came away with a resounding 149 run victory.

Winning the toss and electing to bat Thatcham openers Mick Stone and Kieran Lynch set the foundation with an excellent partnership of 64. With the Hillingdon opening bowlers Duce and Sherali both swinging the new ball the partnership started watchfully - only 15 runs coming from the first 10 overs. Sherali in particular bowling very well conceding only one run from his first 5 overs.

However, as the bowlers tired runs began to flow more quickly with Stone making 28 and colt Kieran Lynch narrowly missing his first senior 50 for Thatcham when he was dismissed for a fine 47. Dave Taylor (20) and Piers Bragg (17) continued the acceleration but it was a hard hitting 72 from Andy Stephenson (including 11 fours and a six) backed up by Dave Wells (26 not out) that allowed the declaration to come at 236 for 6 after 48 overs. Robinson was the most successful Hillingdon bowler finishing with 3 for 54.

Hillingdon also started their innings cautiously against the new ball bowlers of Simon Chapple and Ben Cruise, and it was Cruise who made the initial breakthrough by bowling late replacement opening batsman Seymour with the score on only 12. Against tight bowling backed up by excellent fielding (including two direct hit run outs from the deep by Piers Bragg and youngster Nic Monger) Hillingdon struggled to make headway and eventually were all out for 87. Simon Chapple with 3 for 23 and Ben Cruise with 2 for 21 were the pick of the bowlers backed up by Tony Glinos (5.3 –0-10-1) and Nic Monger (4-0-18-2).
