Match report Halfway through the season and Thatcham were well placed, fourth, to cash in on Maidenhead’s annual capitulation at the top of the league and gain promotion to the league above. Visiting TTCC this week were Farnham Royal, second, also in contention for promotion.

Farnham won the toss and decided to bat first. Thatcham’s new ball pace pairing, Peter Edgcombe (1-54) and Tim Mahoney (4-59), immediately caused problems for Farnham’s batters. Mahoney struck in the 14th over to dismiss the dangerous Pulsford. Edgcombe then had Sahdra superbly caught by wicket keeper Stephen Bird. Three further wickets from Mahoney and two from Johan Williams (2-51) had Farnham in trouble at 118-7. However despite the reintroduction of Edgcombe, ably supported by Sam, TTCC allowed Farnham to finish strongly posting 180-7 from their full 52 overs.

Ieuan Cottingham (15) and Gavin McDonald (27) set about Farnham’s first rate bowling attack. After both opening batters departed in quick succession Stuart Newman (23) and Rakesh Patel (70) continued to dominate the bowling. Stephen Bird (7) replaced Newman and together with Patel put on 57 for the 4th wicket. Chris Barnes (11) and John Williams (8) eased the pressure after Patel departed for a magnificent match winning 70 allowing Edgcombe (10no) hit the winning runs. Happy days.
