Match report Thatcham Town 4th XI’s trip to Aldershot was eventually in vain as the weather intervened with Thatcham in a good position to win the game.

On a wicket always likely to help the bowlers Thatcham bowled first and thanks largely to a fine display of controlled swing bowling from Ben Cruise, dismissed the home side for 114. Cruise took 4 for 18 from 16.3 overs, and with Matt Taylor 1-33 and Dave Wells 2-28 also bowling well Thatcham always had the upper hand.

The bowlers were supported by fine fielding from the youngsters, especially Louis Appella, who took two catches and made a fine run out to close the Aldershot innings.

With the match reduced to an 84 over game Thatcham needed less than three an over and despite the loss of an early wicket were progressing steadily when heavy rain brought a premature end to proceedings.
