Match report Thatcham must be slightly relieved that the cricket season has come to an end which will at least stop their run of defeats which now totals six in a row after going down at home to Royal Ascot by 6 wickets
Thatcham won the toss and chose to bat, openers Rhys Williams and Peter Sprigs made a promising start, but with the score on 44 Williams (29) was caught by Andrew Wiggett off the bowling of Will Ellison. Sprigs (16) soon followed dismissed by the same combination caught Wiggett bowled Ellison. Jack Young and Ben Copeman didn’t hang around long both were dismissed for 4, Young caught Andy English bowled Henry Chapman and Copeman bowled Ellison. A healthy partnership between Jamie Young and Rhodri Lewis started to develop which ended when Lewis was caught Wiggett bowled Chapman for 16. Young was then caught English of the bowling of Wiggett for 14. Ryan Gilmour and Alex wood came together and started to play positively and moved the score on to a more competitive total until Gilmour (39) became Wiggett’s fourth catch off the bowling of Kevin May. Wood (20) was then bowled by Jeremy Hare, Nick Bishop became Hare’s second victim LBW for 9. Tim Mahoney was the tenth and last man out caught by English off the bowling of May for 0. Chris Bird remained 0 not 0ut. Thatcham never batted all their allocated overs and finished 180 all out off 44.2 overs.

Thatcham opened up with seamers Ryan Gilmour and Alex Wood, but they didn’t really trouble the Ascot openers of James Gamble and Jeremy Hare. It wasn’t until spinner Chris Bird was introduced to the attack that Thatcham got their first wicket that of Jeremy Hare bowled Bird for 24. Next wicket to fall was opener Gamble(51) caught Bishop bowled Sprigs. Gilmour then ran out Kendall for 11. Gilmour was then reintroduced to the attack and had Sweetman caught behind by Jamie Young for 51. Lughusen and Chapman remained not out on 15 and 4 respectively. Ascot reached the target in 46 overs with the loss of 4 wickets
