Match report Thatcham II completed a comfortable eight wickey victory away at Reading III on Saturday.

Thatcham won the toss for the fourth week running but this time elected to field with that option looking like their best chance of victory.
17 year old league debutant Matt Taylor got them off to the perfect start, taking a wicket with the second ball of the match thanks to a fine catch at slip by Stephen Bird, who somehow managed to get himself at least two inches off the ground to cling on one handed. Taylor then backed it up with two more wickets in his allotted six overs as Reading slipped to 25-3.
Tim Mahoney bowled with little luck as he conceded just twelve runs from nine overs. He was replaced by John Williams who took a wicket with a brutal delivery, believe slow bouncer seems to be the commentators name for it these days, and at the halfway point Reading were 53-4.
Dorrington was setting himself to bat through the innings but with his movements hampered by injury he was bowled by Perry Moore for a battling 38. Williams took another one soon after but Tucker (28 not out) and Nasim (37 not out)finally showed some attacking intent taking seventy from the last ten overs to finish with 172-6. Taylor showed promise with 3-38, Williams and Moore with 2-33 and 1-55 provided excellent control.

Tea was disappointing but this worked in Thatcham’s favour as a hungry Gavin McDonald set out to finish the game quickly so he could get some food as soon as possible on the way home. He batted like a man possessed, going over the top and punishing anything remotely near him. Simon Rider kept the fielders on their toes as the pair ran very well and he wasn’t shy of putting the bad ball away either. Fifty came in 8.4 overs and the century stand was raised seven overs later before Rider was surprisingly bowled for 45.
McDonald continued his positive outlook before he was finally dismissed for an excellent 77. Thatcham were left with only 24 needed for victory and they soon wrapped it up with Stuart Newman on 24 and Stephen Bird 6 to win by eight wickets with 19 overs to spare.
