Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday v Maidenhead & Bray on Sat 22 May 2010 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 21 runs

Match report Another disastrous batting display from Thatcham sees them propping up Div 1 of the Thames Valley League after defeat against Maidenhead and Bray.
Asked to bowl first by the away side Thatcham made a dream start with Jason Williams removing Khan’s middle stump in the 2nd over of the day. Maidenhead made a steady recovery and it wasn’t until the 23rd over of the day that Thatcham got their 2nd wicket with Jack Andrews (1-18) claiming the wicket of Raja(30) just as he was looking dangerous.
Two quick wickets soon followed with Chris Bird (1-23) removing Chaudary for a fine 42 and John Williams (1-32) removing Khan for 34 and with Maidenhead at 79-4 Thatcham looked to take the initiative.
However some lofty blows from the Maidenhead tail looked to be taking them well over the 200 mark but the return of Jason Williams and Ali Naqvi soon ended any hopes they had of reaching that target. Jason Williams finished with 3-53, Naqvi 2-53 to leave the Thatcham batsman 199 to chase down.

A change in strategy from Danny Williams meant that John Williams opened with Naqvi but he was first removed with the score on only 10. However Maidenheads joy was short lived as Danny Stone returned to form and together with Naqvi started to take the sting out of the new ball and Maidenhead hearts. Steady if not spectacular stroke play saw Thatcham chasing down the target with relative ease and they passed the 100 mark with 18 overs still left.
Soon after though Naqvi was given out caught behind for 43. Paul Jenkins hit a couple of boundaries but his stay was only short as he was out LBW for 14. With Stone still at the crease hope was not lost but a rush of blood saw him caught out for a very well played 42 and Thatcham were now struggling at 133-4 still needing 66 but now only nine overs were left.
Jason Williams was sent up the order and he immediately set after skipper Bez with some lofty blows and the rate was again down to just a run a ball. However he was run out for 19 and worse was to follow when Danny Williams fell lbw for only 1. At 168-8 and only 2 overs left Thatcham’s only hope was a draw but unfortunately for them Josh Wwinfied was out for 0. Chris and Stephen Bird tried to hold out for the last wicket but the latter lobbed a simple catch back to Bez to leave Thatcham stranded on 177 all out with the last 9 wickets falling for only 66 runs. Malik, with 6-33 from 17 overs was the pick of the bowlers.
