Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday v Burnham on Sat 26 Jun 2010 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 8 runs

Match report Bottom of the table Thatcham entertained Burnham at home on Saturday looking for a result against the top of table side.
Burnham won the toss and asked Thatcham, who had an unimpressive record when setting a target so far this season to bat first.
The decision proved to be right again as Thatcham struggled up front and lost two early wickets in Simon Rider (5) and Ali Naqvi (5) with the score on 17.
Danny Williams came into join Dan Stone and took the score to 38 before Williams was bowled from an impressive opening spell from the opening bowlers.
Thatcham at this point was in a little trouble but Stone continued to hold Thatcham’s innings together with some elegant stroke play and a little luck as wickets were falling around him.
With the score on 71-6 Thatcham were not looking good but Jason Williams had other ideas when he came to the crease to join Stone and seemed the find the boundary with ease.
The score was moving on nicely to 117 before Williams (16) was caught behind followed shortly by Stone for a very well made 58.
Robb Fraser (14no) tried to hold the innings together while trying to push the score along and he ran out of partners and Thatcham ended up 154 all out.

Thatcham took to the field in good spirits looking to take the game to Burnham, as only a win would be good enough to lift them off the bottom of the table.
With Williams taking the old ball at the start of Burnham’s innings, Thatcham took three early wickets to put pressure on the visitors at 29-3 with some fine bowling from John Williams (2-59) and Ali Naqvi and some excellent fielding to back it up.
Burnham batsman started to build up a partnership with some lusty blows to the boundary to put the pressure back on Thatcham.
The introduction of Jason Williams (3-19) into the attack with the new ball to partner Ali Naqvi proved to be an inspired move as three wickets were taken with some fast bowling in a short space of time to break the middle order batting of Burnham.
A superb one handed catch from Dan Stone in slips brought Thatcham within sight of a much-needed win just needing one more wicket as Burnham were 134-9.
A defiant last wicket stand took Burnham within touching distance of victory themselves. Thatcham needed just one more special effort from Ali Naqvi who bowled a superb spell in the heat to finish the job to the delight of the Thatcham team. He produced the goods as Burnham fell nine runs short of the target and Naqvi’s marathon 23 over spell saw him finish with 5-56. It was a fine result as the whole team contributed to the win.
