Match report Thatcham Town’s turbulent season in Division 1 of the Morrant Thames Valley Cricket League is in better shape after their first back to back win of the campaign, defeating relegation rivals Wokingham by 29 runs in rain affected, damp conditions at Brownsfield.

Following last week’s washout at Basingstoke & North Hants, Thatcham were desperate to get back to winning ways. Put in to bat by Wokingham, it was yet another day to forget with the bat as only Ali Naqvi (40), Dan Stone (20) and Matthew Denness (20) made noteworthy contributions as Thatcham crumbled to 151 all out in 47 overs, Kelum (4/50) and Smith (3/11) the pick of the Wokingham bowlers.

Having defended scores of less than 150 twice already this season and against more formidable opposition, Thatcham were confident their bowlers could yet again come to their rescue and so it was to be as Naqvi (4/46) and John Williams (2/26) ripped through Wokingham lineup, aided by a farcical run out, leaving their foes in deep trouble at 59/6 in the 30th over.

After a period of brief resistance with the 7th wicket yielding 40 runs, further inroads including 2/23 from Chris Bird saw off the threat (including that of Rakesh Patel, the former Thatcham player), Wokingham dismissed for 122 in the 50th over, despite a valiant 68 not out by opener Thava. Thatcham netted a vital 25 points in the hunt for survival, condemning Wokingham to relegation uncertainty.
