Match report The Dominator Strikes

Thatcham 2nd’s were denied victory against Cumnor 2nd’s on Saturday as the bad light and then rain called an end to the friendly fixture.

Batting first Thatcham started slowly with Iain Cottingham patting back full tosses and Micky (where’s that electrician?) Stone struggling to pierce the infield. Stone (19) fell with the score on 41 as he tried to up the tempo. Dave Taylor (4) came and went, but the arrival of Matt Denness soon had the scoreboard moving. After a short rain break Cottingham (37) decided to run himself out and Denness (44) also departed. Chris Rochfort (52 not out) batted with aggression and was supported by new boy Graham Squires (16).

Thatcham’s innings closed on 187 for 5.

Cumnor started slowly and were never really in with a serious chance of victory.
Ansell and Squires both bowled well and had good supporting spells for Colt Sam Booth and Gooch Redmond.

However, with the light fading it was left to Dominic Melville to tear into the Cumnor middle order. The Dominator steamed in and with some hostility bagged himself career best figures of 4-35 which included two impossible catches by Stone at slip. Thankfully the poor weather called and early close to the game which saved us all from the inevitable Dominator 5 wicket haul.

Cumnor closed on 147 for 7 with T Munsey top scoring with 27.
