Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Finchampstead III on Sat 15 May 2010 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report Thatcham II were left rueing missed chances with both bat and ball in their quest to register their first league win of the season when they entertained Finchampstead III last Saturday. After being inserted into bat, Thatcham were soon struggling at 4-2 after the departure of Fraser and Tom Mahoney without scoring. Iain Cottingham was joined by Matt Denness and the pair carefully rebuilt the innings. After playing himself in Denness started to take the attack to Finchampstead, unleashing an array of strokes on both sides of the wicket and the century partnership arrived in the 27th over, the momentum was now with Thatcham.
Cottingham (26) chased a wide delivery from S. West but Denness was joined by Martin Keep who continued to attack the bowling. With Denness approaching his 100 he offered his first chance and was caught at cover for a highly entertaining 92. Finchampstead now sniffed an opportunity to get back into the game and once Keep (29) was dismissed the innings subsided for the 2nd week running to 181 all out in the 49th over. Disappointingly only 3 batsman reached double figures, while for Finchampstead Foster 6-52 and S.West 3-25 did the damage.

After tea, Cottingham decided to open up with the old ball with the guile of Bishop and youthful enthusiasm of Nathan Redmond, who with his 1st ball clean bowled the Financhampstead opener Lay. Bishop was extracting turn from the dry surface and with men round the bat the pressure was being applied to the Finch batsman, Lay and then Hopkins both fell to the wily off spin of Bishop. Redmond then had Mclean caught at slip by Bishop, and Ramskir was soon after bowled by Redmond, leaving half the side dismissed for 50.
A mini revival between skipper Arnold (26) and S. West took the score to 77-6, then with the dismissal of Matthews Finch were reeling at 90-7. Unfortunately, with Bishop having to leave the ground the wheels then fell off. S.West (55) was joined by his son P.West and 6 chances of varying difficulty came and went before the partnership was broken by Wylie. However with less than 30 runs required P.West (33) and D.Foster (12) saw Finch home, leaving the home team cursing their inability to take the chances offered.
