Match report Thatcham II continued their recent improvement in performance in their "winning" draw against Eversley II at Brownsfield on Saturday. On winning the toss, Eversley skipper South inserted their host, openers Cottingham 26 and Winfield 26 were determined not to loose an early wicket, the pair posted the first 50 opening partnership of the season Cottingham fell caught at extra cover with the ball holding up in the wind. Two further wickets fell, suddenly Thatcham were 65 for 3, which then became 86-4 after the departure of debutant Harland for 10. The innings was in need of rebuilding, however the youthful confidence of Jack Young and Monger 22 had other ideas taking the attack to Eversley with 50 off 5 overs before Monger when for another big shot and was caught. Young was joined by vetran Moore who demonstrated his vast array of shots to tick the score board over, another 50 partnership was broken by the returning opening bowler Cummings and Thatcham's innings closed at 199-8 off 52 overs with Young departing for a very mature 69 his maiden league 50, a fantastic knock.



In reply Cottingham opened with the old ball, old timers of Moore and Mahoney, Moore immediately having Ford caught by Taylor, this brought in Australian Ragavan who demonstrated his confidence by striking Moore immediately to the boundary, prompting Cottingham to take the new ball. Burnett replaced Moore, Mahoney then had skipper South LBW, 2 wickets then fell to Burnett, however Ragavan was playing within himself, however a leg trap was set and he duly edged to keeper Young who continued his fine alround performance by taking a diving catch. Taylor replaced the tiring Mahoney and then took 2 wickets, Eversley were now 76-7, Thatcham duly kept the game open to capture the remaining 3 wickets, however Ryder 44no playing with initial fortune found a resilient partner in Burgess 27 who took the score to 149 before the returning Moore broke the partnership, however no more wickets fell and Eversley closed at 162-8. Overall an enjoyable and much improved performance generating 12 points for Thatcham.
