Match report Thatcham’s 3rd xi poor start to the season continued with a nailbiting 2 run defeat at home to Chenies & Latimers second string.

Electing to bat Chenies were indebted to 14 year old opener S. Bartlett who all but carried his bat through the innings for 57.
Kevin Liverside (3-24) had earlier taken the first three wickets to fall, but Bartlett stood firm. Malcolm Bloor (2-41), Matt Taylor (1-15) and Eddie Wylie (1-39) toiled away, but their old nemesis victor extra (51) and veteran Kevin Hefferman (21 not out) took Chenies to 188-7 from their 52 overs.


Thatcham’s response was positive with both Bob Gadsden (19) and Neil Stevenson (24) looking in good touch. Bloor made (21), but wickets fell all too regularly to A.Edwards (5-48) leaving Thatcham 132-8, Wylie was joined by Gavin Ansell and the pair carefully edged Thatcham nearer to the target until Wylie was bowled for (30) it was left to Ansell to get Thatcham home, but he was caught for a valiant (22) with just 3 runs need for victory. Bartlett continued his form with an excellent performance behind the stumps.

Thatcham despite coming so close only collected 7 points whilst Chenies picked up 25, the margin not reflecting the close nature of the game.
