Match report Thatcham 3rd xi gained a most valuable win at Beaconsfield on Saturday in their attempt to maintain their league status.
Put into bat Thatcham found themselves 2 down for only 5 runs runs. Neil Stevenson (17) and skipper Malcolm Bloor led the fight back with Bloor’s timing at times akin to a Swiss watch before he was adjudged leg before wicket for a fluent (54). Ravi Mirchandani made (45), but when he departed, Thatcham were 150-7 and well short of the 250 or so needed on Beaconsfield’s track.
Up stepped Nathan Redmond whose shear belligerence smashed the homes sides attack all round the ground as he scored an unbeaten 63 of just 40 balls. He was well supported by Dave Taylors (27) as the pair added 97 in the last 12 overs to take Thatcham to 247-8 from their 52 overs. R. Atkin (4-52) bowled with good skill through out his 17 over stint for the home side.

In reply Thatcham struck early through Redmond (3-49) , but de Caires and B. Richardson (58) in particular got stuck into the Thatcham attack and were soon scoring at over 6 an over as the hundred came up in the 17th over. The 150 came up in the 30th over and Beaconsfield still had 8 wickets in hand and looked on course for victory, but the turning point came when Tom Cogdell brilliantly run out de Caires for (59) with a direct hit. Redmond’s return into the attack brought instant rewards and with Nick Voller (2-43) also striking immediately on his return Thatcham sensed victory from what looked at one point certain defeat. Mirchandani (3-37) mopped up the tail as Beaconsfield’s last 5 wickets fell for just 12 runs in the space of 6 overs to leave Thatcham winners by 21 runs. Atkin (31 not out) completing a fine all round display for the home side.
