Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Cove 2nd XI on Sat 14 May 2005 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Thatcham won the toss and stand in skipper, Perry Moore, invited Cove to bat first on what appeared to be a typically good Thatcham wicket. Sean Huckins and Jamie Bishop took the new ball, sponsored by Melo Associates, and bowled steadily restricting Cove to 36 – 1 in the first 13 overs. Young Paul Jenkins replaced Huckins and bowled aggressively without much success and at the other end evergreen Tim Mahoney worked hard to restrict the dangerous Smith. Once Patel uprooted Smith’s middle stump Cove’s innings lost momentum and the reintroduction of Jenkins cleaned up the tail in quick time. Jenkins finishing with 4 wickets from his 10 overs and Mahoney 3 from his 17 overs.
Phil Makings and Iain Cottingham opened Thatcham’s innings. The pair put on 59 for the first wicket before Makings was caught for a fine 45. Cottingham’s dismissal brought Huckins to the wicket where he and Stephen Bird put on 101 for the third wicket. After Huckins was bowled for a majestic 72 Bird guided Thatcham home ending unbeaten on 56.
Next week Thatcham welcome back skipper Jamie Fisher for the trip to Maidenhead and Bray.
