Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Harefield 2nd XI on Sat 06 Aug 2005 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won 8 wickets

Match report A 168 run 2nd wicket partnership between Cottingham (104) and Jenkins (88 not out) saw Thatcham 2nd XI complete a comprehensive 8 wicket win over Harefield 2nd at Brownsfield on Saturday after their bowlers restricted Harefield to a below par 203 off their full 52 overs.
After winning the toss skipper Fisher had no hesitation inserting Harefield on a typical good looking Thatcham pitch, with Bishop and Jenkins bowling with great disapline, Harefield openers struggled to score, with only 20 scored off the first 10 overs . After his spell Jenkins had to leave the pitch temporarily with stomach cramp, who was replaced by the off spin of Moore, Bishop duly made the breakthrough with Fisher taking a neat catch at first slip. Bowling in tandem Bishop and Moore began to run through the top order of Harefield, with Evans 28 and Taylor 31 top scoring, until Bishop 16-2-43-3 pulled up and left the field with a calf injury to be replaced by Sabberton. Moore bowled with control picking up 4-78 off his 20 overs, with a boundary catch at wide long on by Cottingham the highlight wicket. With Jenkins returning to pick up a wicket his 8-5-22-1 was spoilt by 2 sixes in the last over as Harefield reached 203-9 off their 52 overs, a score at tea which Thatcham felt confident on reaching.

Thatcham openers Cottingham and Gadsden tactics after tea were to positive against the new ball, with 20 coming off the first 3 overs the experience of Prentice 1-46 nipped one through the defences of Gadsden, at 31-1 this brought in Jenkins. Jenkins and Cottingham then proceeded to take the game away from Harefield, with Jenkins (14 fours)driving neatly off his toes and through the off side and also Cottingham (18 fours) driving confidently through the offside. Cottingham was first to reach his 50 off 75 balls closely followed by Jenkins off 58 balls. On reaching his 50 Cottingham accelerated through to the 90's with a flurry of 4's only slowing down to ensure he reached his 100, duly completed off 128 balls. With Harefield skipper using 9 bowlers in a effort to break the partnership, he struck with 5 runs required, it was left to Jenkins to cap a man of the match performance to strike the winning runs with over 7 overs to spare.

The win leaves Thatcham 20 points behind Falkland 2nds with 4 games to play, Thatcham visit Kew this Saturday hoping to repeat their earlier win in the season and continue the pressure on their local rivals. The match ball was sponsored by Melo Associates.
