Marlow v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 09 Jul 2005 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won 8 wickets

Match report Thatcham finally got the win their recent play has deserved with a comfortable chasing victory at Marlow, with Sri Lankan Brad Ediriweera to the fore with both bat and ball.

Winning the toss, Duncan Johnson inserted the home side on what looked a damp, greenish, sticky wicket and both Ediriweera and Andy Harland bowled superbly in the helpful conditions and were rewarded when Rochester was finally bowled for a 28 ball duck, after struggling to put bat on ball. Hudson soon followed cheaply, again to Ediriweera courtesy of a great catch from Chris Bird at mid-on and when Andy Harland had Graham Paskins brilliantly caught in the gully by Rak Patel for 16, the home side were in trouble at 31-3 through 15 overs. Skipper Madurasinghe and Lennox then set about steadying the ship and added a useful 34 runs before Chris Bird claimed the first of his 4 victims, Lennox well caught by Chris Wright for 19. Another useful stand of 49 then followed before Bird dismissed Baig for a battling 20 and in the same over Bird then took care of dangerman Haq, lbw for no score. Madurasinghe was making his way to a half century when he and Dickinson tried to take a 3rd to Andy Harland, only for the Thatcham paceman to unleash a rocket of a return and he was inches short when Ediriweera took the bails off and on his way back for a fine knock of 47. Ediriweera then bowled the dangerous Dickinson for 13 and although Defranco and Higginson both made a spirited 14 each, both were stumped by Chris Wright, one off Bird, the other off Ediriweera and Thatcham had bowled the home side out in the 51st over for 162.
It was a great effort in the field from the visitors with Ediriweera and Bird both picking up 4 wickets each and Andy Harland the other success, although Pete Edgcombe bowled a really tight spell of 10 overs for just 27 runs in the middle of the innings.

Thatcham’s reply was dominated by Ediriweera, with Phil Makings sharing in an opening partnership of 43 before he was bowled by a useful delivery from Baig for 16. Ediriweera reached his 50 off 78 balls and with Chris Wright in fluent form at the other end the target was quickly hauled in. Wright fell near the end for 31, stumped by Rochester off the leg spin of Defranco and it was left to Ediriweera and Duncan Johnson to finish the job off, Ediriweera on 95 with 2 runs required for victory, but he could only succeed in hitting a 4 to leave himself unbeaten on 99 and his side 166-2 and finishing the job off in the 34th over.

It was an excellent all round display from Thatcham and the 20 point haul moves them up the table and a little closer to the chasing pack.
