Reading Sports v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1st X1 - Sunday on Sun 25 Jul 2010 at 2pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 71 runs

Match report Thatcham got back to winning ways in the Border League following a 71 run victory over Reading Sports.

Having won the toss Thatcham skipper Paul Jenkins opted to bat first on a relatively fresh pitch. Openers Josh Winfield and Simon Rider looked to build on their stunning partnership from the previous day. Following a watchful start both got in to their strides soon after dispatching lost deliveries and running 6’s. Winfield was the first to pass 50 with Rider joining him shortly after in the process completing their second century opening stand of the weekend. Winfield fell to a tired shot on 76 but with a platform built his job was done.
Adam Phillips joined Rider and having looked settled was unfortunate to be bowled round his legs. Jenkins joined Rider and immediately pushed for the 200 mark. Rider continued to find energy from somewhere, but ran out of steam to be bowled for a well crafted 74. Nathan Redmond continued the positive nature of the innings but departed soon after for three.
Chris Rochfort came to the crease and began to find the rope with regular ease. The 250 mark came and went with ideas looking towards notching up 300. Jenkins passed 50 and with Rochfort hitting the ball in to middle of next week 300 seemed to be on the cards. However a few dot balls and some tired legs meant Thatcham fell just short on 297 with Jenkins 71 not out and Rochfort 35 not out.

After an enjoyable tea break Andy Rishton and Owen Jenkins shared the new ball hoping to make some early inroads. Rishton struggled to find his areas but it was Jenkins who looked the more likely to get the breakthrough. The first ten overs failed to produce a wicket; however the introduction of Sam Rodway gained almost immediate results as Nikhil was run out for 21.
John Williams bowled his nine overs of seam without reward but with the score now passing 150 and two set batsmen a little bit of panic began to form in the Thatcham camp. A double bowling change saw late call up Rhodric Allen and Nathan Redmond enter the frame with Allen striking with almost his first ball removing the dangerous Praveen for 57. Redmond removed Jiten soon after for 48 and Thatcham began to breathe a bit easier. With both bowlers gaining control wickets began to tumble on a regular occurrence, thanks in the main to a good fielding display.
Allen duly completed his first senior five wicket haul and with Redmond wrapping up the innings Thatcham had made hard work of what should have been a straight forward score to defend. Allen was the pick of the Thatcham bowlers with 5-39 from seven overs and found good support from Redmond 2-32 from 7.4 overs.

Having come back to winning ways Thatcham entertain Swindon next Sunday as their league season begins to draw to a close.
