Finchampstead v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 13 Aug 2011 at **12.30pm** earlier start
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets

Match report Thatcham’s slim hopes of staying at the top level of the Thames Valley League were dealt a heavy blow as Finchampstead condemned them to a nine wicket thrashing on Saturday.

The pitch offered some assistance for the bowlers but Thatcham made a solid, steady start through Ross Schreiber (16) and Daniel Stone, reaching 40 from the first 15 overs. The introduction of left arm spinner Dewes and Russell Lane (2-31) put a brake on the scoring with only 31 coming in the next 15 as three wickets also went down, including Stone for 36.
Dewes picked up the first five wickets to fall, helped by some reticent batting (a third of the overs were maidens), and at 90-7 when Josh O’Flynn was out for 15 and only 11 overs left it looked like Thatcham would struggle to set any sort of target for the home side.
Not for the first time this season Thatcham’s lower order gave their total some respectability and once again it was Chris Bird who led the way, along with Robb Fraser. They decided that positive intent was the way to go, adding 24 in four overs before Bird fell for 29.
John Williams (20) joined in a partnership of 34 with his captain before Daniel Stephenson entertained all by smashing 18 from just 12 balls as he and Fraser (34no, 24 balls) added another 33 from the last three overs to give the visitors something to bowl at. Dewes ended with 5-47, with good support from Hards (2-35).

Wickets would be key for Thatcham but Gary Loveday and Matt Jones were in no mood to give anything away. Although Stephenson and O’Flynn both bowled some testing deliveries the pair settled quickly, bringing up the fifty in the 11th over.
Bird slowed things down a bit, continuing his excellent form, but runs started to come more easily, particularly from Jones who was now starting to dominate proceedings.
Williams also started well and for a short period the two left arm spinners slowed things slightly but time was running out for Thatcham to get anything from the game. Eventually Williams dismissed Loveday for 32 at 111-1, well caught by Chris Rochfort behind the stumps but Jones then took it upon himself to try to finish the job quickly.
He raced on to his century from 98 balls and as Issacs (25no) gained in confidence the victory target was reached at a canter in the 36th over with Jones 120 not out.
