Match report Thatcham’s 2nd XI played out a frustrating draw with their counterparts from Farnham Royal at Brownsfield on Saturday.

Having won the toss and inserted the opposition, Thatcham’s attack, well supported in the field, worked hard to reduce Royal to 60 for 5 before Southwart (58) and Shave (24) led a middle order recovery.
Jamie Bishop bowled an excellent opening spell, picking up 2 for 25 from 13 miserly overs and opening partner, Matt Taylor worked hard to finish with 4 for 54 from his two 7 over stints.
Nick Voller bagged a brace of wickets in his first appearance of the season and with Nick Bishop eventually gaining some reward for tight lines, the innings closed on 188 for 9 from the maximum 52 over allocation.

Farnham Royal retained the use of the old ball and quickly made inroads into a re-shuffled Thatcham top order, the home side collapsing to 20 for 4 before Stephen Bird (32) and Matt Denness (58) restored order and set about building a platform on which the home side could mount a serious challenge.
Unfortunately, tight bowling from Shave (3 for 55), Nasir (2 for 60) and Nicholas (3 for 29) meant that the pair were unable to accelerate the scoring rate and despite useful impetus from Robb Fraser (21) and Nick Voller (13 not out), Thatcham held on for a draw, finishing on 160 for 8 from their 48 overs and a disappointing 7 point haul.
