Match report Sporting a handful of geriatrics and six under 19's players Thatcham Town 2nd XI entertained Fleet 2nds on Saturday.
Losing the toss Thatcham were asked to field and began by bowling a pile of filth.
However, the introduction of Josh Winfield 1-36 who bowled an excellent and surprisingly controlled spell and Nick Voller 4-36 finding his line the brake was soon applied to the Fleet innings.
Wickets soon began to tumble under the pressure. A vital breakthrough was made when an enforced field change due to Beaumont having to leave the field due to a medical emergency resulted in an excellent catch by Paul Jenkins at slip.
Fleet consolidated in the middle overs with Elston 54 and Minnis 24 batting sensibly against the spin of Felix Hartley Russell 0-36 from 11 overs and Tommy Mather 1-21 on 2nd team debut.
The reintroduction of Voller and Tristan Allen 2-20 as Fleet attempted to accelerate kept things under control on an excellent batting surface and rapid outfield.
Fleet closed their innings on 188 for 9 from 52 overs.

Thatcham began their pursuit of what appeared to be a below par score with confidence even after the early loss of Winfield.
Hartley Russell 42 took the attack to Fleet with some powerful strikes but as he fell Jenkins took over with the back up of Tom Mahoney 34.
Steve Bird 15 not out supported Jenkins who finished with a fine 87 not out as Thatcham came home 190 for 3 with over 14 overs to spare.

Thatcham closed the gap on Marlow Park in second to three points and face them next week and are 11 points behind league leaders Farnham Royal.
