Match report Thatcham II’s first game of the season ended in defeat but there were some encouraging performances from the younger brigade.

The visitors elected to bat and were soon off to a flying start as Steve Ott in particular punished some early season loose bowling. Kunal Sharma and Josh Winfield were the first bowlers to slow the rate slightly but it took a fine direct run out from Sharma to break the opening partnership as Knight was run out for 67.
Ott continued on to a fine century, despatching some large hits on the way before Ali Cooper got through his defences on 127. Cooper was the pick of the bowlers, with 2-36, with Felix Hartley-Russell collecting 3-30 at the end of the innings as Andover reached 303-7 from their 45 overs.

Thatcham’s reply was built around Josh Winfield who played superbly. They slipped to 79-4 from 20 overs and with little chance of winning Winfield was joined by Matt Watts, returning from the cricketing wilderness, to attempt to get some time in the middle.
This they managed with some style, Winfield hitting down the ground beautifully while Watts scored all around the point to 3rd man region in typical style. With overs running out Watts passed 50 with Winfield closing in on a maiden hundred. He got there with a neat flick off his hip and then smashed 25 from the last two overs, ending on 125 not out, Watts on 61 and Thatcham 230-4 from 45, their partnership closing on 151.
