Cumnor II v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday on Sat 30 Apr 2011 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report Thatcham’s second string completed the Club double over Oxfordshire side Cumnor with a relatively comfortable two wicket victory on Saturday.
Having won the toss and put the home side into bat in a 45 over ‘win or lose’ format, Thatcham’s opening attacked settled down well in blustery conditions, with Matt Taylor in particular showing excellent control bowling into a strong headwind.
Home skipper Steve Pritchard looked assured and added fifty with his less confident opening partner Miell (17) before the latter departed with the introduction of Nick Bishop’s off-spin. Bishop struck again in his third over, with Jack Young taking a difficult thick edge chance to remove Munsey for 2 and Cumnor were now 60 for 2 off 22 overs.
Pritchard consolidated the innings somewhat with Burt (17) before Tim Burnett gained just reward completely deceiving Burt with a well disguised slower ball, Denness taking an excellent diving catch in the covers.
91 for 3 soon became 96 for 5 as Bishop maintained the pressure, removing Lal and Jones in quick succession, Lal departing to a very sharp stumping by Young off a rising delivery and then Bishop completed his five wicket haul by clean bowling Norton for a duck.
Cumnor dug in though and a useful 56 run seventh wicket partnership between Pritchard and Howarth (15 not out) saw the home side to a respectable 158 for 6 from their 45 over allocation, Pritchard desperately unlucky to miss out on his ton, finishing unbeaten on 99.
Thatcham’s fielding was disciplined throughout and supported some excellent bowling on a wicket that didn’t do a great deal, Taylor unlucky not to pick up a wicket in 10 good overs – Bishop finished with fine figures of 12 overs, 5 for 25.
In reply, Matt Watts came and went to one that kept low in the third over, before Josh Winfield and Stephen Bird added 68 for the second wicket. Winfield looked in fine form again, with 8 boundaries in his 44 before being adjudged LBW to Shrimpton in the 18th over, Thatcham now well placed at 71 for 2.
Bird continued to mix caution with aggression and Jack Young looked to dominate the spinners, the pair adding 65 useful runs in 12 overs and with the home side flagging, a handsome victory beckoned.
Young then offered a chance to the nagging Brandish who snapped up a stunning return catch to dismiss the youngster for 28 and then, having been given an opening, Cumnor seized the initiative and brought about a dramatic change in fortune as they ripped through the Thatcham middle order, the visitors collapsing from 136 for 2 to 153 for 8 in a difficult 7 over spell.
Shrimpton (3 for 12), Brandish (2 for 34) and Jones (2 for 33) all bowled well for Cumnor and when Bird eventually got out for a hard worked 63 (11 boundaries) Thatcham looked to have snatched defeat from the jaws of a certain victory.
Tim Burnett (10 not out) steadied the ship though and remained positive, taking the relieved visitors to victory with nearly 8 overs to spare and Thatcham now head into the Thames Valley League season lifted by two useful victories against the Cherwell league outfit.
