Match report Thatcham Town all but made up for their shock home defeat to Reading Sports with a dominant 8 wicket victory in the return Border league fixture.

Batting first on a fresh pitch the home side started cautiously with a miserly 19 coming from the opening ten over spell. Nathan Redmond (1-33) and Tristan Allen (0-40) made good use of the new ball despite not picking up the rightfully deserved wickets. A flurry of wickets brought Thatcham back in to the innings but Pav (65) and Mishal (36) began to rebuild the innings. Adam Mather (1-42) accounted for the former with his first ball and Eddie Wylie (2-20) the latter. Jamil (44) and Abhinav (49 not out) produced the lower innings big hitting to boost the hosts total over 200, finally finishing on a competitive 234 from their allotted overs.

After a somewhat confusing tea Thatcham quickly got in to their stride with Simon Rider (95 not out) and Josh Winfield (53) complementing each other perfectly adding 80 within the first 16 overs. Abhinav, in removing Winfield, brought Thatcham debutant Arthur Edwards to the crease. Some glorious stroke making and lightning quick running slowly wore down the home side’s enthusiasm passing 150 with 12 overs still remaining in the game. A subtle change of action saw the back of Edwards, unfortunately stumped for an enterprising 42. Scott Gibson (25 not out) calmed things down and with the never tiring Rider saw the visitors to the finish with three overs remaining. Abhinav (1-39) and Siva (1-45) the sole wicket takers for the home side in yet another enthralling Border League encounter involving Thatcham Town.

Next weeks visit of Swindon promises to be yet another entertaining clash in an enjoyable Border League campaign.
