Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1st X1 - Sunday v Swindon on Sun 31 Jul 2011 at 2pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Thatcham continue to impress in the Border League overhauling a strong Swindon batting line up by six wickets at Thatcham on Sunday.

Winning the toss in very humid conditions the visitors inevitably batted first on a dry but well paced Brownsfield surface. Nathan Redmond (1-33) removed Ashley Baden early on but with boundary balls being served up all too regularly Swindon eased passed 50 inside the opening twelve overs. Josh O’Flynn (2-19) pegged things back with a superb spell of swing bowling, in the process snapping up the quick scoring Sore for 29. Several overs of heavy scoring followed before the introduction of Sunday debutant Tommy Mather. Facing a daunting task of a short boundary and two set batsmen Mather settled in to his rhythm and with the help of some excellent out fielding tore out the Swindon middle order. Baden (18), Williamson (12) and Pinchin (29) all providing good support to Tribbick (53). A score well in excess of 250 was on the cards before an excellent run out from Josh O’Flynn had the better of Tribbick. With the last few wickets falling in a procession at the end of the innings Swindon posted a competitive but gettable 233; with Tommy Mather returning superb figures of 3-39 from his nine over allocation.

Following the last delightful home tea of the season Josh O’Flynn (42) and another Sunday debutant Ross Schreiber set to work on making early inroads. Again, much like the visitors innings, with many four balls being served up 233 was never looking like easy to defend. With Schreiber always looking to be the aggressor the 100 partnership came up well inside 17 overs, building that a platform from which Thatcham never looked back. With O’Flynn succumbing to Baden, Arthur Edwards continued his good form from the previous week with a fine 35 ably supporting Schreiber as he reached his maiden Thatcham century with yet another commanding pull shot. Finally departing for a whirlwind 113 the game appeared to be all but finished by the hosts and despite a slight wobble of losing three wickets for one run, Scott Gibson (20no) and Paul Jenkins (15) knocked off the remaining 35 runs to round off another dominant batting display.

With four weeks off before the return Swindon fixture, individual performances in recent weeks should give Thatcham the impetus to finish the Thames Valley season on a high.
