Match report Thatcham’s Thames Valley League hopes took a hit on Saturday as they went down at home by 68 runs.

Batting first the NPL openers went on the attack as Chris Churchman and Singh hit the Thatcham bowlers for an opening partnership of 153.
Thatcham finally got the breakthrough thanks to a direct run out from Steve Wyatt, when a lapse in concentration by Singh left him short of his ground as he saunter a single gone for 47.

Churchman however carried on his way until he was caught for an impressive 109 with the score on 167 for 3. His departure combined with improved second spells for Peter Edgcombe 3-86 and Duncan Johnson 2-57 slowed the NPL onslaught and bowling the visitors out looked a possibility. Unfortunately this didn’t occur as the NPL batsmen accumulated runs steadily on a wicket showing signs of deterioration to finish on 267 for 6 from the full 52 overs.

Thatcham stared their innings in a positive fashion as Nick Shea 21, Toby Radford and Daniel Stone 30 all looked to push the score along against the NPL bowling attack.

The dismissal of Radford for an attractive 71 with the score on 156 for 4 began the Thatcham collapse as the home side tried to chase the game. The incoming Thatcham batsmen all attempted to up the scoring rate, but on a wicket which was now turning and bouncing wildly this was going to be a big ask.

Despite a handful of powerful blows, wickets unfortunately fell with regularity as no Thatcham batsmen could make their mark and their innings closed on 199 in the 45th over.
