Match report Thatcham ended the season in winning style securing 3rd spot in the Morrant Thames Valley Div 1 on Saturday with a comfortable 7 wicket win over already relegated Hampton Hill.

Hampton Hill won the toss and elected to bat first and rattled up an impressive 256-8 from their 52 overs, with T Hampton top scoring with 77, ably assisted by Salman Mohammed’s 55, Colin Parkinson’s 41 and O Hampton who finished not out on 32.
John Williams was the pick of the home attack with his left arm spin yielding 3-62 from 10 overs, skipper Duncan Johnson picked up 2-84 from 17 overs, with Nick Bishop 1-40 from 9 and Raheel Zaman 1-39 from 8 also amongst the wickets.

Thatcham started their run chase in good fashion as Duncan Johnson and James Ettridge put on 90 for the 1st wicket in just 11 overs before Ettridge edged T Hampton to Parkinson at slip and departed for 26. Johnson continued to score freely and was in sight of a 1st league century for Thatcham when he hit a long hop from leg spinner Parkinson’s first over straight down Lloyd’s throat at deep square and was on his way back to the pavilion for a fine 92. Steve Wyatt hit a quickfire 15 before he fell in the same manner as his skipper and it was left to Toby Radford and Chris Wright to finish the game in the 40th over as Thatcham passed the Hampton Hill total of 256 with plenty more in the tank, Radford unbeaten on a superb 89 and Wright 18 not out at the close.

Kew deservedly pipped Harefield to the title and good luck to them in the Home Counties Premier League in 2007 and with Bagshot and Tring Park 2’s gaining promotion to TVL 1, once again it will be a tough league to win. Only 13 points separated Thatcham in 3rd place from Chesham in 7th spot !
