Match report The first game of the season in hot and sunny conditions certainly caught many cricketers by surprise as a large percentage left the field as pink as a lobster. The Home side won the toss and elected to bat, putting the Thatcham side out to field in the heat. The two Thatcham openers found some early movement and managed to remove the home sides captain (M. Watton) for just 13. Fellow opener N. Badman dug deep to score a solid 43 from 90 balls to give Chiswick and Latymer a foundation from which to post a good total. However the tight bowling of Tim Mahoney and Chris Bird in the middle stages saw the home side struggle to 108 for 5 from 40 overs. J. Stocks (22) and T. Woolley (26*) provided some resolve for the home side but after an inspirational return to the bowling attack from Rakesh Patel (3 for 26) the home side finished on a modest 168 for 8 from their 52 overs.

Thatcham started slowly, and after an injury to T. Woolley in his 3rd over the crowd saw N. Seneviratne provide a breakthrough with his first delivery, Stephen Bird providing catching practice to Davies at gulley. The second wicket fell in the 14th over, seeing Chris Barnes removed for just 6 from 37 balls. Thatcham then managed to stroll slowly on through a stubborn batting display from Daniel Stone (42) but after he departed and Robb Fraser (7) soon followed, trying to put the ball in the Heathrow flight path the visitors looked in trouble at 100 for 4 from 31 overs thanks to the bowling of S. Davies (2 for 37). However when the 5th wicket of Rakesh Patel fell just 4 overs later it was 4 overs too late for the home side as Patel crushed a fatal 45 from just 20 deliveries, including 26 from one over, to leave the visitors needing just 18 for victory from 13 overs. Faisal Ali (35*) hit the winning runs and Thatcham won by 5 wickets with 8 overs to spare.

Thatcham receive 20 Points and Chiswick and Latymer claim 8 points. Next week sees Thatcham host Teddington Town and Chiswick and Latymer travel to Wokingham.
